Jeff Radebe, the Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Performance, Monitoring, Evaluation and Administration in the Presidency, visited the Chief Mogale Community Hall as part of the national Imbizo Focus Week early in November. The theme of the Imbizo was “Together we move South Africa forward: Our future – make it work”.
Mogale City’s Mayoral Committee formed part of the panel in a question and answer session attended by more than a thousand residents of Kagiso. They asked questions and expressed their problems to the panel of politicians which then gave the relevant office-holder a chance to respond.

The problems they raised included the lack of public transport (taxis being the only available transport in Mogale City) ; better service delivery at public institutions; the dilapidated Bob van Reenen Stadium and the lack of recreational facilities. In addition, most of the residents voiced the problems of youth unemployment and lack of housing.
Mogale City’s MMC of Infrastructure, councillor Ernest Modise, addressed the people on their concerns. He said, “We are currently negotiating with taxi owners because we want to bring the ReaVaya bus transit system to the Leratong taxi rank. I promise to make buses available in Kagiso and I will follow up and give you positive progress reports.” He went on to say that Kagiso needs a proper shopping mall because only people from Mogale City can expand the city’s economy.

Radebe encouraged the community to put their heads together so that a programme to lead Mogale City forward can be developed. “I am committing myself to working with other government departments and companies to create a master plan for Mogale City,” he said.
