A birthday party with a twist

One small spark has the ability to ignite a big fire, and Heather is one of the best examples.

The smile you give to others always finds its way back to your own heart, according to a popular proverb.

Heather de Mink is an ‘average’ working-class person, but always finds the means to contribute to the less fortunate.

Seeing others happy, even momentarily, is her ultimate passion in life.

She recently celebrated her 50th birthday and when her friends asked her what the birthday celebration of her choice would be, she said without hesitation that she wished to spend the day with elderly people from Jack Cotton, President, Pioneer and Memorial Old Age Homes at the Mug and Tree Community Centre in Krugersdorp West.

Heather entertained the elderly in the community to a three-course meal on Saturday, 29 October.

Doing good deeds is one of Heather’s life purposes. In addition to being involved with the Mug and Tree centre she also frequently visits children at the Unity Children’s Home in Vanderbijlpark.

In collaboration with other charity enthusiasts all working and contributing on a volunteer basis she also feeds approximately 600 homeless people in the Johannesburg city centre once a month.
