Two big wines for the festive season

Try these must-have wines!

Gorgeous berry and plum aromas, with a subtle hint of mint, follow on to a lush palate with juicy blackberries and cedar notes, the Groote Post Merlot 2014 is round and full, silky and elegant, with a long finish. A winner of Best Merlot Trophy at the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, you’ll find it at your local wine store for around R128 a bottle.

If you’re planning a dinner around a rich and flavourful meat or pasta dish, a fine pairing is the Shiraz-driven blend Plaisir de Merle Petit Plaisir 2014. The sweet spice and vanilla from the oak barrels blends seamlessly with the dark berry fruit flavours … the result is a long, lingering sweet and soft finish. Just lovely! Around R100 a bottle.
