Help 24 Secure CEO Sheldon Grobler says operational teams intercepted a silver BMW 3-Series allegedly linked to a string of crimes across the West Rand since May 12.

The vehicle has been connected to several incidents, including vehicle thefts, gate motor thefts and burglaries.

“The incidents were predominantly committed during the early hours of the morning,” Grobler said.

According to Grobler, information was received on September 14 about a silver BMW allegedly involved in an attempted vehicle theft in Kenmare and Witpoortjie.

Further investigation linked the vehicle to the BMW previously identified in connection with the earlier incidents.

Grobler said investigators also noticed a change in the suspects’ operating pattern, with the vehicle becoming active during the afternoon rather than the early morning.

Investigative work continued on September 15, when the vehicle was monitored as it travelled towards Roodepoort.

Operational teams then positioned themselves at key points and along possible exit routes.

“Co-ordinated intelligence and tactical deployment enabled teams to locate the vehicle and execute a successful takedown,” Grobler said.

Four occupants were found inside the BMW, along with a device believed to be used in vehicle thefts.

The matter has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
