When under the influence and in the festive mood, people are prone to making unwise decisions when it comes to fireworks.

New Years’ Eve is approaching and some are preparing for the best party of their lives. Although fireworks are illegal in South Africa and cannot be bought anywhere legally, some people might be able to buy fireworks on the black market or at a backstreet store.

What with having a couple of drinks and being in a festive mood, people are prone to making unwise decisions when it comes to fireworks during a party. Sometimes the results are hilarious. Either that, or they’re life-threatening. Nonetheless, here are some of the funniest and scariest firework fail videos on YouTube. In this video compilation you can see various fails – from premature detonation to hand-held fireworks that are accidentally shot in the direction of family members.
