The search for lost furry family members continues
Fireworks took their toll on some of Krugersdorp's furry residents.
Fireworks, fireworks and more fireworks.
What possible damage can it do? One may think not much, but some animals paid with their lives this festive season because of one people’s poor decisions.
Due to people lighting fireworks during the festive season Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) can not keep up with all the phone calls from pet owners enquiring about their lost dogs. Owners are devastated and some searched throughout the night in the hope of finding their beloved furry family members. Some had luck, but 90 per cent are still searching. Most of the animals that have gone missing are not sterilised and that concerns Fora the most.

“People need to have both their male and female dogs sterilised,” spokesperson Shayne Sattie said.
Shayne also said that people need to have proof of ownership if their dog gets lost. They are urged to advertise and search on Facebook pages such as Lost and Found DOGS South Africa.
People are requested to help rescue the stray dogs they come across and take them to their nearest veterinarian or local SPCA. Here are some tips on how to rescue a dog:
• Sit down and do not show fear
• Turn your body so that your back or side faces the dog
• Keep your eyes averted and bow your head to appear non-threatening
• Have some tasty treats at hand
• Do not talk
• Wait patiently for the dog to approach you and do not make any sudden movements
• Do not grab the dog when it gets close
• Be patient
Owners are also advised to have their animals microchipped and let them wear proper identification
