Suspect arrested for fraud

The suspect was arrested for being in possession of a fraudulent document.

Hekpoort police have arrested a 32-year-old male on a charge of fraud.

The police members were attending to a complaint at a security services company where one of the employees was allegedly in possession of a fraudulent document. Constable Kombelani Matshebele checked the document and realised that the certificate of refugee status in RSA looked suspicious.

The suspect said that he obtained it from Krugersdorp and paid R900 for it, but the stamp on the form did not validate this story. Constables Matshebele and Maluleke then went to Krugersdorp Home Affairs, where it was confirmed that the document was fraudulent.

The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 11 January.
