Security officers foil Muldersdrift truck yard hijacking on N14

A purported test drive turned into an armed confrontation before security officers stepped in to apprehend two men.

A normal Friday at a truck yard on the N14 in Muldersdrift took a turn for the worse when four suspects attempted to hijack a truck from the yard.

Guardmax Protection Services sales manager Gerrie van Rooyen explained that on October 23, the suspects, who pretended to be clients, said they wanted to purchase a truck.

“Two of the suspects went for a ‘test drive’ with a staff member, and as they approached the highway, the staff member was held at gunpoint and fortunately fought back,” said Van Rooyen.

He said the two suspects fled on foot, leaving the other two suspects at the truck yard.

Swift intervention

According to Van Rooyen, their Guardmax team arrived on the scene and apprehended the two suspects who were still on the property, while the rest of their team searched for the other suspects, but they could not be located.

“The staff member remained unharmed, and the truck was returned safely to the truck yard,” said Van Rooyen.

He confirmed that the suspects, their vehicle and a firearm were handed over to the police for further investigation.
