Dagga merchant busted by Swanieville community
"Working hand in hand with police will also yield good results that will benefit all of us."
Kagiso Police arrested a 50-year-old alleged dagga merchant after finding him in possession of the substance in Swanieville on Tuesday night 17 January.
It is believed an anonymous community member contacted the Kagiso Crime Prevention members who were patrolling the area and informed them about the merchant’s location.
The caller gave the members directions to a house in the Mayibuye section of Swanieville. The members found the suspect who allowed them to search his room.
During the search, the members discovered a yellow and black plastic bag filled with loose dagga. Some of the dagga was already in prepared packets/ bankies. The suspect was arrested and later detained at Kagiso Police Station. A case docket of possession of dagga was opened against the merchant and he was set to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court two days after his arrest.
“We are proud of and impressed by our communities’ change of attitude toward crime,” said Brigadier Sipho Nqubane, Kagiso Police station commander.
“It is everybody’s responsibility to make Kagiso safe and crime-free. Working hand in hand with police will also yield good results that will benefit all of us.”
