Kagiso Police have issued an official warning to the public to be careful when approaching the intersection of Impala Road and the R41, next to the Leratong Hospital.
This warning was issued after numerous female pedestrians who boarded taxis in the area became victims of armed street robberies.
Throughout January, complainants have lodged various complaints about suspects robbing them while threatening them with knives. The complainants all mention that two suspects approached them between 7pm and 8pm.
The complainants were waiting for taxis at the traffic light at the intersection and were robbed of their handbags and personal items such as money and cellphones.
Due to the increased robberies in the area, the police have issued the following tips on how to avoid being targeted:
• We advise people to walk in pairs and to always be alert.
• Always make sure that you know who is around you.
• Never allow a stranger to come too close to you.
• If a stranger gets close to you, just move away and scream for help. Kagiso Police are still searching for the two suspects who are preying on female pedestrians.
