Community helps to have perps arrested

The Kagiso Police made another successful arrest on Wednesday, 25 January as a result of the involvement of and tip-offs from community members.
According to Brigadier Ngubane, this is the second time in two days the community has led police to arrest suspects.
The first arrest occurred on Tuesday, 24 January, when Kagiso Police arrested a suspect after he was found in possession of several rounds of ammunition.
The Kagiso Crime Prevention Unit was conducting patrols in the area when a community member stopped and approached them. He told the police about a suspect who was wanted for attempted murder. The suspect allegedly tried to murder a victim in October last year. The community member provided the suspects’ address and the police arrested the suspect later that night.
The suspect only had ammunition in his possession and a case of unlawful possession of ammunition was opened. The attempted murder case against him was however reopened.

The second arrest due to community tip-offs occurred the following day, at about 5.40am, when three suspects aged between 19 and 23 were arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Sector police were patrolling sector 6 when they received a tip-off from community members about a person in possession of an unlicensed firearm. They went to the address the community member provided and arrested the suspects after finding a firearm between the mattress and base of a bed.
“Another successful arrest in two days as a result of community involvement in the fight against crime,” Brigadier Ngubane said. “More ammunition removed from the wrong hands in two days. We want to thank the community for their tip-offs. We really value their positive contributions to the fight against crime. Reporting illegal firearms is very important and wise as it saves many people from murders, robberies, rapes and so forth.”
