‘Someone stole my identity and my money – what now?’
Visitors will be motivated to educate themselves.
The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp has invited Annalise Kempen, the editor of the Servamus magazine to host a talk on ID theft and fraud.
The magazine is distributed monthly to members of the police as well as to public subscribers to the magazine. Annalise has been covering the subject of ID theft and fraud in the magazine for a considerable period of time and the Rotary Club invited her to share her expertise in these matters.
Be assured – anyone can be a victim of this very serious crime on any day and at any time. A typical scenario of ID theft would be if someone used your identity number to open an account in your name and left you blacklisted by not paying the installments.
Computer-facilitated crimes against adults and children present a serious global problem too. The internet, with some of its deep and dark websites, has become the new schoolyard where child abusers seek victims and exchange their ‘products’. The borderless aspect of these offences, coupled with the evolving technology used in cyber crimes, is challenging traditional law enforcement.
Visitors will be motivated to educate themselves and attend this address by Annalise, who graduated from the Pretoria University with a Bachelor of Political Science degree in 1993. She has been involved with Servamus since 1994. In 1995 she was appointed news editor and in 2002, after it was privatised, she was appointed as editor.
The talk takes place on 7 March at The Golden Age Village, 43 Heading Street in Wentworth Park and members of the public are invited to attend. There will be no charge for entry, but a donation towards the Rotary Foundation will be appreciated.
