Police do urgent search at local schools

The searches were conducted after a learner from a school allegedly stabbed another.

Kagiso Police conducted an urgent search for weapons at two local schools in Rietvlei and Swaneville on Friday, 24 February.

The searches were conducted after a learner from a school had allegedly stabbed another. The police suspect the stabbing was due to alleged gangsterism in the schools.

The search was done as a swift response to the schools’ principals who were concerned for their learners’ safety.

“We also realised it was more imperative and timeous to intervene,” said Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for Kagiso Police. “The issue of gangsterism is looming in many schools but we are not going to let it happen.”

The police said this is not their first search and it will definitely not be their last.

The items found on the learners were not disclosed in the police report.
