Follow-up: Details of woman who died at Monument Dam released

Paramedics arrived on scene and noticed she was bleeding excessively from an old wound.

At about 4pm on Sunday, 26 February, a woman collapsed and died on the walkway next to Monument Dam at Key West Shopping Centre.

It is believed that while a family was in the shopping centre on that day, one of them, a woman, felt light-headed, and said she was going to go outside for a walk to get some fresh air.

The family finished shopping and went looking for her after she had been gone for too long. They found her collapsed on the walkway near the dam.

Community members had contacted the local Community Policing Forum and emergency services after finding her on the ground on the walkway. Moments later, Quick Response Service (QRS) paramedics arrived on scene and noticed she was bleeding excessively from an old wound.

The patient had no pulse, so the paramedics began trying to resuscitate her. Unfortunately, they had no success, and they declared her dead on scene.

Although the dam does not belong to Key West Shopping Centre, its management has acknowledged the passing of the woman.

“We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased during this tragic time,” said Melissa Holtzhausen, the acting spokesperson for Key West.

The identity of the woman is known, but the family has requested the News not to release any details, due to the sensitivity of the matter.
