DC of the Week: Tupperware thief lives to steal another day
Police lost the suspect but are now looking for the owners of the stolen property.
Kagiso Police made the shocking discovery of a substantial quantity of stolen goods on Friday, 24 February, after ransacking a suspect’s home.
It is believed Kagiso Police’s Social Crime Unit was monitoring an area in Kagiso when they spotted a suspicious-looking person on the street carrying a set of Tupperware dishes.
The police stopped the person and questioned him. He informed the police he was selling the products for someone in return for commission.
The police, who had doubts about his supposed Tupperware-selling job, then demanded that he take them to his place of residence.
Upon arrival at his residence, they found his family in the kitchen. The police informed the family of the reason for their visit while the suspect went to his room, ostensibly to fetch other, similar products, to show to the police. He also said he would bring his supposed employer’s details to them. However, he failed to return from his room, and a while later, the police realised he’d escaped through the bedroom window.
Police ransacked his bedroom and found a substantial number of items under his bed, some of which they believed were stolen. These included car keys, house keys, gate remotes, two wrist watches, cellphone starter packs, binoculars and CDs.
The family was surprised by the discovery. The police also allegedly found items of clothing belonging to the suspect’s sister that she had long been looking for, hidden under his bed.
The Kagiso Police are now searching for the suspect and are appealing to anyone with information about his whereabouts to call them on 011 696 9059/ 9065/ 9068. They are also looking for the owners of the stolen property (see image), who can contact the police on the same numbers if they recognise any of the goods.
