Changing lives one drop at a time
The students all had a good reason to donate.
Making a difference in the community is what they strive for.
UniCollege West Rand wants to make a difference and change lives, which is why they set a higher target for this year’s blood drive. A target of 30 units was set as more students realised the need to donate blood.
“We realise how important blood is and we want to do our bit by helping everybody in need,” said marketing manager, Natalie Franklin.
The college tries to participate in as many projects as possible in a given year, with the annual blood drive being just one of them. Some of the students donated for the first time and made it a team effort to donate as much as possible.
According to Donor Care Officer and registered nurse, Tebogo Maboe, the blood bank is more stable at the moment than a few weeks ago.
“About two weeks ago, the blood bank’s supplies were very low and we had to implement more blood drives to improve the situation,” said Tebogo.
The students all had a purpose for donating. Some of them had relatives that needed blood and others just wanted to save lives.
“If you can save a life, why not?” asked Kevin Botsane.
The college managed to donate 18 units of blood, which they believe will help a lot.
