Foreigners and drug dealers get the boot after raid
The teams arrested suspects for dealing in drugs as well as undocumented foreign nationals.
West Rand Cluster Police, along with their Vispol (Visible Policing) and K9 Unit and a Tactical Response Team launched a successful drug raid operation in the notorious Sivewright Street in the early hours of Thursday, 2 March.
Sivewright Street was targeted because it is known for its drugs, prostitution and other criminal activities.
The teams arrested five suspects for dealing in drugs which included Cat, Mandrax and heroin worth an estimated street value of R17 000. The drugs were confiscated.
With the assistance of the Department of Home Affairs, the team arrested 63 undocumented foreign nationals.
They also recovered stolen property with an estimated value of R50 000. In addition, six people were arrested for possession of stolen property.
Major General Anna Mateisi, cluster commander for the West Rand, praised the initiative, saying, “These successes are again proof that proper intelligence plays a vital part in any operation. We will continue in this manner to ensure the safety of all our residents in the West Rand Cluster”.
The newly launched Mogale City Crime Forum (MCCF) commended the team for a job well done.
“Crime has no place in Krugersdorp or any other part of Mogale City,” said Gert Jonker on behalf of Dr Fay Hodza, chairperson of MCCF. “We urge all other authorities who are responsible for the enforcement of council by-laws against illegal dumping, illegal vending, vandalism, illegal use of buildings and other spaces to follow suit. We deserve and demand a city that is safe for everyone to visit, live, work, and do business in.”
