It is believed the 32-year-old constable was chasing the three suspects with the other officers in Geba Street, Kagiso on Tuesday, 7 March at about 2pm, when the suspects started shooting at them.

The suspects had allegedly hijacked a truck prior to the chase. The truck they were travelling in had been stolen in Krugersdorp earlier that same day.
The constables allegedly spotted the truck and pulled it over. As they approached the truck’s cab, they heard shots being fired and one of the constables dropped to the ground. The truck then sped off.
The truck collided with a VW Golf in the next street. The driver jumped out and ran into a nearby stream. The other suspects also fled the scene.
The constable sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his head and was in a critical condition. He was airlifted by a police helicopter to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
The Police K9 Unit and air support members launched a manhunt for the suspects, and arrested a 31-year-old suspect shortly afterwards.
A case of attempted murder has been opened. The constable is still in ICU.
