Employee allegedly steals from animal shelter

The man was arrested and is currently in custody, pending his court appearance.

Hungry, cold and alone. This what the animals of The 9th Day Animal Shelter are experiencing.

The shelter posted a heart-breaking story on their social media page Tuesday (14 March). The post stated that they were robbed by an employee who was part of the team. The employee allegedly stole food and money over a period of time. Since Monday the shelter has been without food and is unable to treat the fur babies they care for.

Owner, Charmaine Booysens, told the News that she is very sad and disappointed. She said she cannot believe that someone would steal from a shelter.

Charmaine contacted the local police and the man was arrested. He is currently in custody, pending his court appearance.

“It costs the shelter R1 000 a day, amounting to R30 000 a month to feed the dogs,” said Charmaine.

The shelter is in desperate need of dog food and is willing to take in any brand the community is able to donate.

Anyone willing to assist the shelter with donations can contact Charmaine on 082 924 9337. Monetary donations can be deposited into their bank account, FNB account number: 625 7101 6825, branch code: 250409, with reference: Dog food.
