On Sunday, 19 March, a 47-year-old man was arrested on the R24 in the Hekpoort area.
He was in possession of a stolen vehicle, stolen goods and an unlicensed firearm. Constables Monaisa and Moseto had received a ‘be on the lookout for’ (BOLO) from the police radio control operator for a charcoal Toyota Fortuner which had been stolen in Potchefstroom during a housebreaking.

As the constables approached the R24, they came across a white Toyota parked next to an overturned Fortuner, which matched the description of the Fortuner in the BOLO.
The white Toyota turned out to be from a tracking company, which was allegedly tracking the Fortuner. The driver of the Fortuner was unconscious, allegedly after colliding with a silver Chevrolet. Fortunately nobody in the Chevrolet was injured.

The police found a rifle, a substantial amount of ammunition and a magazine in the Fortuner. Items such as cellphones, which are believed to have been stolen, were also confiscated.
The station commander of the Hekpoort Police, Captain MT Zwane, applauded the individuals who secured the recovery of the vehicle and goods and for arresting the suspect.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital under police guard.
