A delicious treat made of sugar or honey, nuts and egg white – yes, it’s nougat!
Everybody unable to walk past nougat without wanting to sample it can enjoy this special day, because it is National Nougat Day!
National Nougat Day is observed each year on 26 March in celebration of the soft and chewy, or sometimes hard and crunchy sweet treat.
There are many legends about nougat’s origins. The early recipes of white nougat were found in a Middle Eastern book in Baghdad in the 10th century. Nougat is also considered a traditional product in certain regions of Italy.
There are three basic kinds of nougat. The first, and most common, is white nougat, the second is brown nougat and the third is Viennese or German nougat.
Spoil yourself on this lazy Sunday with a special treat and get yourself a nougat of choice.
Fun fact: African nougat typically is made with fruits, rather than nuts.
