Eight homeless after house burns to the ground

The family includes two toddlers, aged about 3 and 5 respectively.

A family of eight has been left homeless after their house in Roode Street, Burgershoop burnt to the ground on Thursday, 30 March at about 4.30pm.

The family includes two toddlers, aged about 3 and 5 respectively.

West Rand District fire engines were on scene to contain the fire. Community Police Forum (CPF) Sector 5 personnel were also on scene, to regulate traffic and block off any spectators.

The CPF also arranged that the family be sheltered at the Tower of Life until they make alternative living arrangements.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Both the CPF and the Fire Department were happy with the way they worked together to contain the scene.

The CPF is urging the community to help with clothes donations for the family. Those who want to donate can contact the Tower of Life on 011 660 4623.
