Collision at Voortrekker Road intersection leaves three injured

It is believed that the elderly couple entered the intersection against a red traffic light, causing them to collide with oncoming traffic.

A collision between two light motor vehicles left traffic backed up at the Voortrekker and Paardekraal Roads intersection for quite a while.

An elderly couple travelling on Voortrekker Road in their Ford Figo and a woman travelling on Paardekraal Road in another vehicle collided at about 11.30am on the morning of 24 April.

Journalist Nadine Maré was on scene shortly after the accident occurred. It is believed that the elderly couple entered the intersection against the red traffic light, causing them to collide with oncoming traffic. The Sector 3 Community Policing Forum was first on scene to assist the couple.

The elderly woman was transported by ambulance to Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital.

Local paramedics such as Quick Response Services, Netcare 911, and Help24 and officials from the West Rand District Municipality and Mogale City Traffic Department also arrived later.

The three patients were transported to hospital after being stabilised on scene. The patients sustained moderate to minor injuries. Traffic was heavily backed up while the scene was being cleared.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known.
