Rapist sentenced to 10 years

Due to diligence and perseverance during the investigation, the accused was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.

A rapist who has been standing trial since 2015, was finally sentenced in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

The woman, who was 19 years old at the time she was raped, was walking in the Krugersdorp CBD when Brian Matshe pulled her into his vehicle and drove to Kagiso where he raped her.

Constable Lucky Magwai from the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), was appointed as the investigating officer.

He ensured that the necessary evidence was collected to secure a successful conviction. Due to his diligence and perseverance during the investigation, the accused was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. He was also found to be unfit to possess a firearm.

Lieutenant Colonel Katy Segotta, FCS Unit Commander, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of this case.

“Our members are committed investigators and their successes during the past month are commendable,” said Segotta. “Constable Lucky Magwai again proved that justice is served for the victims of crime. Keep up the good work, constable.”
