[FOLLOW UP] Case of child abandonment opened after newborn was found dumped in toilet
The baby is doing great and if you would like to help, here's how.
On Friday, 5 May at about 11.15am a woman discovered a newborn baby girl inside a toilet in Key West Shopping Centre.
It’s alleged the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby and it seemed as if the woman who left the baby there had just given birth to her.

Paramedics were called and they treated the baby. She was transported to hospital for observation and luckily she had not sustained any injuries. She is very healthy, has black hair and weighs about 2,5kg.
Police have opened a case of child abandonment against the woman who left the baby in the toilet. They believe it was the baby’s mother. Her identity is not yet known.

Michelle Papastefanou, marketing manager of the centre released the following statement:
“Key West Shopping Centre can confirm that a newborn baby was found in one of the centre’s bathroom facilities. Management members were on the scene to assist the baby and contacted ER24 immediately. ER24 arrived on the scene and the baby was taken to hospital for further care and evaluation. The local police as well as Fidelity Security Services are currently conducting a full investigation.
“Management will be hosting a collection drive for baby products, clothing, accessories, blankets and toys. Kindly drop off all goods at the Centre Management offices or the Information Desk for donation before Wednesday, 17 May.”
Various kind-hearted community members have also started to donate clothes to the baby to ensure that she is warm this winter.
