Krugersdorp man caught climbing Everest without permit
A former learner from Town View High School has been ordered off Mount Everest by the authorities, and to face the consequences.
A man who is a former learner of Town View High School is facing a $22 000 fine (almost R300 000) from the Nepalese government, because he climbed Mount Everest without the necessary permit.
Ryan Sean Davy, 43, was recently caught climbing Mount Everest, alone, and it is believed that he was ordered off the mountain and had his passport confiscated.

Davy is now liable for a fine which is double the cost of a permit. The permit cost is fixed at $11 000 per climber from Nepal, which gives the climber permission to climb.
Nepal requires the use of a local company to organise the permit at a cost of $2 500 for the team, a refundable trash deposit of $4 000 for the team, plus a Liaison Officer costing $3 000 per team.

The Nepalese Ministry of Tourism requires every climber to hire a Sherpa guide; therefore no climber may climb Everest alone.
Ryan claims on his Facebook page that he reached a height of 24 000 feet.
He recently posted the following on his Facebook: “When I arrived at Base Camp it became evident that I didn’t have nearly enough money for a solo permit because of hidden costs and even if I did they would have declined it because I had no previous mountaineering experience on record. I was ashamed that I couldn’t afford the permit after all the help, preparation and what everybody had done for me during my training, it would have been a total embarrassment to turn around and accept defeat because of a piece of paper. So I took a chance and spent the little money I had on more gear to climb and practice on the surrounding peaks for acclimatizing in preparing for a stealth entry onto Everest. ”

Ryan also stated that his passport has been confiscated and that he is being sent to Katmandu where he will face penalties and possible jail time.
