Follow-up: Sasol Pinehaven speaks out about 2-year-old victim

At noon on Tuesday, 9 May, a toddler was run over by another customer in his vehicle in the parking lot at the Sasol Pinehaven service station.

As emergency services are permanently on site at this particular parking lot, the toddler received medical treatment immediately after he was knocked down. He sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition at that stage. Additional medical and emergency services were dispatched to the parking lot.

The toddler was rushed to hospital after he was stabilised. When this article was published he was in a stable condition in hospital.

Together with the franchisee, Sasol undertook a thorough investigation into the incident.

“It has been established that all safety measures and requirements were in place and complied with,” said Alex Anderson, spokesperson for Sasol Pinehaven.

“We ensured that all support and trauma counselling services were given to all parties involved and will continue to do so as necessary. Sasol and the Sasol Pinehaven franchisee take safety of all customers and personnel very seriously. We extend our sincere wishes to the family of the toddler for a speedy and full recovery.”
