Sustainable primary healthcare services now in Kagiso
Members of the Kagiso community and surrounds now have access to an affordable, quality, and convenient health care system.
Unjani Clinics NPC, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, announced the launch of a new clinic in Kagiso in a continued effort to improve access and the quality of primary healthcare to low-income communities throughout South Africa.
The Unjani Clinic Network aims to increase training and business resources to professional nurses, as well as expand access to affordable primary healthcare services, with the goal of scaling up to 70 clinics by 2019.

Due to a shortage of trained doctors in South Africa, most of the primary healthcare services in rural districts and townships are performed by skilled nurses. Unjani is committed to building capacity through extensive training and supplying business resources to professional nurses, to bridge the gap of limited responsiveness that primary healthcare clinics can provide to local communities.
“Improving public health around the world is one of our key commitments at Johnson & Johnson, and we are proud to be a sponsor of such a great initiative that continues to empower women and serve low-income populations by delivering solutions that meet some of the world’s most crucial health challenges,” said Laura Nel, Communication Lead for Johnson & Johnson in South Africa.

Since inception, Unjani Clinics have provided more than 250 000 patients with a number of health services, including primary healthcare, vision screening, wellness services and chronic-disease management. One of the goals of the collaboration between Johnson & Johnson companies and Unjani is to establish additional clinics, thereby creating additional jobs and treating up to 280 000 patients annually by 2018 through their clinic network.
“We are excited about yet another expansion of our services to bring improved, affordable and convenient primary health care solutions to low-income communities throughout South Africa,” said Lynda Toussaint, CEO of Unjani Clinics NPC.
“It remains our goal to continuously nurture community health practices, as well as empower women, through various strategic partnerships. Our hope is for the Kagiso community to embrace the principles of Unjani, and to fully benefit from what Unjani is all about.”
The new clinic is now open Mondays to Saturdays and is fully functional.
