Two risk their own lives to save others
It was a busy weekend for CPF and the Fire Department as a car and house caught fire just days apart.
Local Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers were called to Lud Hersch Street in Noordheuwel, after a collision was reported, on Friday, 19 May.
A driver had lost control of his vehicle and it ended up in the veld next to the road near Russel Street. It caught fire with the driver still inside.

A member of the public saved the man’s life by pulling him out of the burning vehicle.
CPF Sector 7 patrollers arrived shortly after he was pulled from the vehicle and their first-aiders treated his injuries while waiting for paramedics to arrive. The man was stabilised and taken to hospital.

In another incident, on Sunday, 21 May just after 6pm, CPF patrollers were informed that there was a house on fire.
Patrollers arrived within minutes and started fighting the fire with buckets of water and hose pipes. The West Rand District Fire Department also arrived quickly.
Fortunately, the patrollers managed to contain the fire and extinguish it before it spread further through the house.
After the flames were completely extinguished, the CPF was informed that a member of the public had run into the house while it was burning, to free the owner who was trapped inside. They were both brought to safety and ER24 paramedics treated them for smoke inhalation.

“In both instances, members of the public potentially saved lives by acting on instinct,” said Brian Bradnick, spokesperson for Sector 7 CPF.
“We thank those people and appreciate what they did for the families of the victims as well as their selfless acts in saving the lives of the people who were involved.
The response of the Sector 7 patrollers was amazing, and demonstrated their dedication to facing dangerous scenes without hesitation or fear.”
