Cycling ‘bully’ to appear in court soon
It is alleged that the man attacked a woman after she hooted at him to move.
The cyclist who allegedly attacked and physically assaulted a woman on 25 September 2016 in Kromdraai, will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court this Friday, 2 June, on assault charges.
The man is expected to appear at 9am and it is alleged that witnesses will be called to testify against him.
In previous articles, the News reported the man had verbally and physically abused Samantha van der Heever on Kromdraai Road, north of Muldersdrift, a popular road among cyclists.
The man allegedly attacked Van der Heever after she hooted at him to move into the cyclists’ lane as he was obstructing the motorist lane.
He allegedly signaled her to pull over, got off his bicycle and punched her before leaving the scene. Later, Van Der Heever’s husband, Gavin, saw him at a local bistro and approached him. He allegedly also attacked Gavin by throwing a hot cup of coffee at him. He then left.
The man was arrested on Saturday, 1 October 2016, after which he warned and released from police custody.

The road remains notorious because of the fights between motorists and cyclists for space to pass each other. Motorists claim that cyclists don’t stick to the allocated cyclist lane and obstruct the lanes in which they travel, while the cyclists claim that the lane is too small for them and that motorists knock them down on purpose.

“Many years ago, residents of the World Heritage Site welcomed all tourists, including cyclists. It is sad that a small minority who do not subscribe to the law, the rules of the road and common decency and respect, are creating a stigma around the cycling fraternity. We know most cyclists are good folk, and it is with this in mind that we encourage all cyclists and the public to please look at the photo and let us know if you know the attacker, in order to maintain a good cyclist/ resident relationship,” Conserv Security said on Facebook earlier this week.
