What’s new at the movies this weekend?

From inspiring superhero movies to stomach-cracking comedies – they have it all this weekend at your local Nu Metro.

This week sees the release of two new highly-anticipated movies at Nu Metro Key West – one inspired by an iconic TV series about lifesavers, while the other tells the tale of the world’s most well-known female superhero.

• Baywatch (16 LNV)

This big-screen version of the wildly popular TV series from the 1990s hits the waves with a devoted lifeguard who butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay. Matt Brody (Zac Efron) is a former Olympic swimmer who wants to join an elite team of lifeguards led by the hulking Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson).

Brody thinks he’s a shoo-in, but his casual attitude instantly starts to rub Mitch the wrong way. When drugs and a shady resort owner pose a threat to the Bay, Mitch and Matt must put their differences aside to spring into action and save the day. Look out for a cameo appearance from David Hasselhoff, the star of the original TV series.

• Wonder Woman (10–12PG V)

DC Comics’ Wonder Woman has been seen in various TV series and movies over the past few decades, but she made her official big budget cinema debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice last year. Wonder Woman is now Princess Diana’s own movie, and what a spectacular, action-filled blockbuster it is! Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. She was raised in a sheltered island paradise, and when an American pilot (Chris Pine) crashes onto their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside mankind in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman is showing in 3D at Nu Metro Key West.
