Police need community’s help to trace robbery suspects

The suspects stole cellphones and cash and assaulted the owner's son with a firearm.

Police are appealing to the community to help them trace the suspects who robbed a tavern in Sol Plaatjie Street on Tuesday, 6 June.

It’s believed the owner of the tavern was busy inside at about 6.45pm when two men appeared.

One of them went to the counter and bought a bottle of beer. A few minutes later his accomplice drew a firearm and pointed it at the owner. The suspects thereafter ordered the patrons to lie on the floor while pointing the gun at them. They further assaulted the owner’s son using the butt of a firearm. He sustained an open wound to the head and left ear.

The suspects then went through the patrons’ pockets and took their valuables. They also found cash in the possession of the owner and his wife. Cellphones belonging to the family were also taken. The suspects then fled the scene on foot, fortunately not firing any shots during the incident.

The Kagiso Police are therefore appealing to community members to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. Contact the Kagiso Police Station on 011 696 9059 / 9065/ 9070, send an anonymous tip-off to Crime Stop by SMSing 32211, or call 08600 1011.
