Seven things that happened on this day in history

Here are seven things you most probably did not know about that happened on 10 June.

According to HITC (Here is the City) – a fast-growing source of news and information on the web – there are a few notable events that happened on the 10th day of June which might, or might not, be mentioned in your history book.

1. The electrical nature of lightning was discovered on this day in 1752 by Benjamin Franklin. This might not seem important, but this very demonstration led to the use of the electricity that we know, love and most probably can’t live without today.

2. In 1921, the Duke of Edinburgh was born, and yes – Prince Philip is still alive.

3. Alcoholic Anonymous was founded in 1935 by William Wilson and Dr Robert Smith. Let’s all celebrate this day with a glass of wine, shall we?

4. In 1940, a war triangle was established when Italy declared war on France and Britain, and Canada declared war on Italy.

5. Italy replaced its monarchy with a republic in 1946. I vote chocolate!

6. The well-known English actress and model, Elizabeth Hurley, was born on this day in 1965.

7. In 1976, Paul McCartney and Wings set a record for an indoor concert crowd when 67,100 fans gathered in Seattle, America.
