Local CPF overwhelmed by community’s generosity towards Knysna Fire victims
"I have never been more proud to be part of sector 7 in my life. It just shows that no matter where people live, we're all able to help each other out."
Kind-hearted members of the Krugersdorp community showed that they care for the people of their country by donating truckloads of food, clothes and blankets to the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Sector 7 last week.
The sector sent out a message asking its members to donate any item that might help the people whose houses were burnt down in the Knysna fires. Moments after the message was sent, members began dropping things off at the designated house. Within an hour, they had filled a Kombi and a bakkie with donations. Eventually, nine vehicles were filled to the brim.

Later, the CPF received messages from local shops saying that they were sold out of certain products because of the devotion of the community members to the cause.

People also transferred funds into the CPF account for the Knysna victims.”We had people dropping off cash at our office. We then sent patrollers out to people that needed items to be collected from their homes.”
“Perfect Water, a local water purifying and selling company located in Noordheuwel sold their bottled water below cost and we received over 3 000 litres of water.”
The CPF even got a local pet food company, Pet Food Industry, to donate cat and dog food for the pets affected by the fires. They aim to collect 32 tons of pet food by Wednesday, 14 June.
The vehicles that were loaded with donations drove in a convoy to the drop-off point – the CPF office at the corner of Lud Hersch Street and Robert Broom Drive.
“It was something to see. I have never been more proud to be part of Sector 7 in my life,” said Brian Bradnick, spokesperson for the sector. At about 10pm that night, sector members started offloading the donations at a drop-off point.

“We were utterly overwhelmed by the support that was received yesterday and totally humbled by the donations. It was an amazing experience for us to be a small part of a much bigger picture. It just shows that no matter where people live, we’re all able to help each other out. We are all proudly South Africans and we will help each other. We are humbled by the support of our members.”

The Sector 7 Executive Committee would like to thank its members for opening their hearts and helping the people of Knysna. A special thanks goes to the volunteer patrollers who spent hours on the road, driving up and down and loading and unloading the items.
They would like to thank every single person who gave something.
“We salute you and we know that the items you gave will be used and will be appreciated.”
