[FOLLOW UP] Dustbin pups found a loving home

After being rescued from a cruel death, Barney and Fred have now found a loving and caring home, and remained by each other's side through it all.

Recently the News reported on two cross-breed pups, Barney and Fred, who were found tied together in a dustbin bag in a field when the 9th Day Animal Shelter – a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre – received a call from a concerned member of the public reporting suspicious activity.

The 9th Day Animal Shelter then asked the community whether anyone was willing to adopt these beautiful pups.

“They’re about six months old, with the sweetest nature. We are bursting at the seams and don’t have space in our kennels. Please is there anyone that’s willing to adopt these angels, anyone willing to show them that they aren’t ‘rubbish’, because they’re unwanted pavement specials?” Charmaine Booysens, the founder of the shelter, wrote on the shelter’s Facebook page.

Several days later, Charmaine was pleased to announce that both Barney and Fred had found a loving home in Germiston, together.

“Upon the house visit, it was clear that the family was madly in love with the two pups, so we’re more than thrilled,” she said.

However, there is bad news for the shelter itself as they looking to close due to a lack of financial support.

“We are considering closing the shelter as we are not really receiving much by way of donations. What will happen to dogs like this?” she said.

If you are interested in helping this shelter stay afloat, feel free to contact Charmaine on 082 924 9337.
