[FOLLOW UP] Key West comments on jewellery store robbery

Key West Shopping Centre’s management have confirmed there was an armed robbery at one of their jewellery stores on Sunday, 18 June at about 1.30pm.
They said a number of armed suspects entered the store and held the staff at gunpoint. A security guard patrolling nearby noticed suspicious behaviour, and notified all security members of the situation.
The necessary steps were followed to ensure the safety of the innocent bystanders. An unknown quantity of jewellery was taken. The suspects fled the centre and it is alleged that shots were fired near the taxi rank from where they reportedly fled in a white Corsa bakkie and a blue Mercedes-Benz.

Fidelity Security Services were on the scene and handed the matter over to the Krugersdorp Police for further investigation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. No harm came to the staff, security personnel or any of the shoppers.
“Due to the nature of the incident, we cannot divulge the security plan to the public, but we can confirm that all necessary safety and security measures and procedures are in place,” said Maxine Edwards, spokesperson for Key West.
“We would like to remind our shoppers to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times. We urge our shoppers to report any suspicious behaviour to any of the security guards on duty in and around the centre and/ or Centre Management immediately.
“The safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, the Centre’s top priority, and we will continue to remain alert.”
