Relative rapes man’s girlfriend

He held a knife to her throat and forced her to have sex with him.

Midway Bulelane, who raped a 21-year-old woman on 26 July 2016, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment recently.

The victim reported to police that she was raped by a relative of her boyfriend on that day. She also reported that Bulelane threatened her with a knife while raping her.

He did not cover his face, which made it possible for her to point him out during the investigation into the incident, and he was arrested shortly after the crime.

Constable Paulet Mapena, a member of the Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit investigated the rape and took the case to court as soon as there was enough evidence to convict the suspect.

Bulelane was found guilty of rape and sentenced. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta, commander of the FCS unit in Krugersdorp, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the investigation.

“Constable Mapena did a sterling job in preparing the case for hearing. That ensured this successful conviction. Keep it up,” she said.
