Rapist gets 15 years behind bars

A 15-year-old girl gets justice after a man took her innocence.

What might have been 15 minutes of pleasure for a man resulted in 15 years behind bars after he was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl in Kagiso, in August 2016.

Because the rapist did not cover his face, the victim was able to identify her attacker when she opened a case shortly after the incident.

Sergeant Thabo Au, member of the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit investigated the case and prepared properly for court, thus securing the attacker’s conviction.

The accused was found guilty, sentenced to 15 years in jail, and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta, commander of the FCS unit, praised Sergeant Au for his thorough investigation and securing the conviction.

“We also need to congratulate the members of the National Prosecuting Authority who are taking a stand against any offender who committed a crime against women and children.

We will continue to strive to protect the vulnerable,” said Segotta.
