Robbers targeting local mall?
A second armed robbery took place at the mall in the space of a week and shoppers are beginning to wonder if the mall is being targeted.
Key West Shopping Centre confirmed that on Monday, 26 June at about 11am an armed robbery occurred in one of the centre’s parking areas.
A man was in his car at the entrance waiting for the boom gate to open. Two men in an Audi A3 stopped behind him.
The men got out of their vehicle and one pointed a firearm at the man in the car while the other one approached the security guard at the gate, pointed a firearm at him too and took his emergency radio.

The men then allegedly went to the passenger side of the man’s vehicle and broke the window. They grabbed a bag containing cash, which he was supposed to deposit at the bank. The suspects then sped off.
No shots were fired and no serious injuries were reported.
Krugersdorp Police urge motorists to be vigilant when driving, especially when transporting large amounts of cash between businesses and financial institutions.
Key West Centre Management reminds patrons not to keep to a specific routine, especially when depositing money regularly, and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity to security staff at the centre and Centre Management immediately.
“The safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, the Centre’s top priority and we will continue to remain alert,” said Maxine Edwards, spokesperson of Key West Centre Management. “Due to the nature of the incident we unfortunately cannot divulge our security plan to the public, but we can confirm that all necessary safety and security measures and procedures are in place.”
