Four arrested after stealing timber truck

The suspects loaded a truck with timber and sped off with it. The truck was later found, but the timber was gone.

Kagiso Police arrested four suspects in Swanieville on Saturday, 24 June at about 9.30pm, after they had allegedly hijacked a truck loaded with timber.

The guard on duty at the company from which the truck was hijacked had just stepped out of the guard room to patrol his area when two unknown men pointed a firearm at him. They allegedly pushed him around and demanded that he hand over the keys to the truck. After getting the keys, the suspects forced the guard into the toilet stall and tied his hands together.

While in the toilet, the guard peeped out of the window and saw that another 10 suspects were loading timber onto the truck.

A few minutes later he heard the gate being opened and the truck leaving the company’s premises. Police were called to the scene and followed some leads. The Kagiso Police later found the abandoned truck in Swanieville, without the stolen timber.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspects and were eventually able to arrest four of them. They have been detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of business robbery was opened.

The suspects have appeared in court and have been remanded in custody for further investigations.
