Three killed in a shootout

Three people were fatally wounded in a shooting.

Three men were killed and three others were wounded in a taxi shooting on Sunday evening, 9 July at about 7.30pm.

Kagiso Police’s Crime Prevention Unit was notified by community members of shots being fired in David Webster Street in Phase 6, Tshepisong, next to a local secondary school. Upon arrival, the police saw two mini-bus taxis parked in the street, and were informed by eyewitnesses that four unknown men had allegedly shot six other unknown men.

Police then searched the scene and found three individuals lying on the ground a few metres from one another, bleeding profusely. All three were critically wounded – one, aged 29, sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh. Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedics assisted the injured, and then took the injured men to a nearby hospital.

The motive for the shootings remains unknown, but a murder docket has been opened by the police.
