West Rand Cluster police keeping community safe

By securing 380 arrests, of which 60 were illegal miners, the West Rand Cluster is making a considerable dent in the number of crimes committed.

Police from the West Rand Cluster, which consists of 13 police stations, secured another 380 arrests in the second week of July.

In Krugersdorp, two suspects were arrested for impersonating police officers, kidnapping and armed robbery. In the kidnapping case, two suspects, who were later accompanied by two more, allegedly kidnapped a person in Klerksdorp. They forced the person to withdraw a large sum of money before proceeding to another town to withdraw more.

In Hekpoort, suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms.

In Kagiso, two suspects were arrested for theft of jewellery. A domestic worker allegedly stole jewellery from her employer and her boyfriend, the second suspect, then sold it to a jewellery store.

A total of 60 illegal miners were also arrested during this period.

Suspects were also arrested for more serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, rape and many more.

Major General Anna Mateisi, commander for the West Rand Cluster indicated that these successes were due to the perseverance and dedication of policemen and -women throughout the cluster. She also attributed the successes to the number of crime prevention operations such as road blocks, in which traffic officers did their part to ensure that the roads are safe.
