Police arrested a 34-year-old man in Rietvallei after he stabbed his live-in girlfriend at his mother’s’ house.
The couple allegedly had an argument about the man’s missing clothes the previous day that became so heated the woman decided to flee to the man’s mother’s house.
She decided to sleep over at the house and was rudely woken by her boy-friend angrily knocking at the door the next morning, Wednesday, 19 July.
An argument between the two ensued once again and when the suspect’s mother tried to intervene, he swore at her. His mother later told police the deceased refused to leave the house with her son. His mother left the room, then heard the deceased screaming, followed by her son bolting through the house and out the door.
The woman then informed her boyfriend’s mother that she had been stabbed. She was rushed to hospital in a private vehicle, but succumbed to her injuries en-route. She was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital due to a stab wound in her right side. The matter was reported to the Kagiso Police and the suspect was traced and apprehended shortly after.
A case docket of murder was opened at Kagiso Police Station and the suspect formally charged. He appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrate Court soon after, and was remanded in custody for a formal bail application.
This is the third West Rand murder involving a couple in a relationship in three weeks.
In the first case, a man and woman were arguing next to the road in Chancliff when the man suddenly pulled a firearm and shot his presumed girlfriend several times. He then proceeded to get into his vehicle, which was parked across the road, and committed suicide.
The second case involved a married couple who were arguing after the man and his son had a fight. The woman pulled out a firearm and shot her husband. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
