Lions president roars for the last time
Even though it was sad to say goodbye to Ivan du Plooy as president, the Lions were more than thrilled to welcome the next Lion into the presidency.
On Sunday, 30 July a pride of lions was heard roaring, loud and clear, in the Muldersdrift area. No, they were not the missing lions from the Kruger National Park. They were the Lions from the Krugersdorp Lions Club, who meet the needs of local communities and the world every day.
During this prestigious annual event which was held at Usambara Function Venue, almost 40 Lions gathered for the induction of their 56th president – Lion Brett Stander.
Even though it was sad to say goodbye to Ivan du Plooy as president, the Lions were more than thrilled to welcome the next Lion into the presidency.

The members also made use of this occasion to applaud various other members for their outstanding service as Lions.
After toasts were drunk to all Lions women, the Lions Club International and the beautiful country of South Africa, the former president, Ivan proudly awarded Andrea Hawla with the ‘Lion of the Year’ trophy. This was only one of the many awards that were handed out to members.
Even though newly elected president Brett still has to present his vision, he aims to involve the youth and focus on drug awareness, among other things, during his term.
The members of the Krugersdorp Lions Club are excited to be able to work under the trusted leadership of their new president and can’t wait for the projects to come.
“Each and every one of us forms part of South Africa, and it is up to us help where help is needed. A great country is arising, therefore we toast this nation, and anyone who is proudly South African,” Lion DeWaal Venter said.
