Truck collision eyewitness speaks
According to Tina the driver saved numerous lives that day.
On Monday, 24 July, the R28/ N14 Pinehaven intersection saw two truck crashes; one during the early hours of the morning and the other during the afternoon. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured and according to an eyewitness this is all thanks to the truck driver that was involved in the second collision.
Tina Jones is a Pretoria resident who travels on the R14/ R28 every day, to and from her workplace in Boltonia. When the second collision occurred, Tina and a colleague named Billy were on their way to Pretoria, making use of this route.

They were driving down the hill from Silverstar and when they saw that the truck – also coming downhill – was not going to stop, they started to panic.
“It was a big shock – I screamed and both of us just closed our eyes. When we opened them, we discovered the truck had missed us by the thickness of a hair, because we felt the car shaking” she said.
“When I looked in the rear-view mirror, I could see how the truck driver had managed to manipulate his vehicle and bring it to a stop just in time.”
According to Tina, the driver saved numerous lives that day. In addition, it was possible that he might not have travelled that road before, which might be the reason for him not using the emergency escape lane.
“He really deserves some reward and according to me, he is a hero. He was able to think on his feet and in that time and space he knew exactly what he was doing. He could have collided with all the cars in the opposite lane, but instead he saved a lot of people,” she said.
