[UPDATE] Nasty collision at Valley View intersection
According to an eyewitness, one of the vehicles skipped the red traffic light.
At about 6.15pm on Thursday, 3 August, two vehicles – a Toyota Hilux and a Volkswagen Fox – were involved in a collision at the Valley View Retail Centre intersection on the corner of Robert Broom Drive and Van Oordt Street.
According to Lucinda du Toit, an eyewitness, the bakkie was travelling on Robert Broom towards Noordheuwel and the Fox was travelling on Van Oordt in the direction of Valley View.

The driver of the Fox allegedly skipped the red traffic light as the bakkie turned right onto Van Oordt, causing the collision. The bakkie had only one occupant, and the Fox two.

The fire department, Netcare 911 paramedics and local police were on scene. Fire department personnel used the Jaws of Life to access one of the victims who was trapped in the vehicle.

The extent of the injuries the Fox’s occupants suffered is not known yet. The News is still waiting for feedback regarding their condition from emergency services that were on the scene.
