[FOLLOW UP] Taxi driver who killed pedestrian and fled the scene is arrested
Eyewitnesses say the driver dragged the man under his taxi for almost 30 metres and then drove off.
At about 7.30am on 14 August, a man was killed by the driver of a taxi in a hit and run incident.
The driver sped off leaving the man dead in the middle of the Furrow and Hendrik Potgieter Roads intersection.
Later the Muldersdrift Police traced the taxi and found it abandoned on the N14 behind Cradlestone Mall.
Police then traced the suspect to a nearby station and arrested him there.
A case of culpable homicide and failure to stop at the scene was opened against him and he was detained at Muldersdrift Police Station.

Eyewitnesses said the driver seemed to be in a rush and drove over the pavement at the robot to cut in front of other traffic. The victim was allegedly standing on the pavement waiting to cross the road. The taxi driver hit the man with the middle of the front part of the taxi.
The man fell underneath the taxi and was dragged to the middle of the intersection. Once the man was free from the underside of the taxi, the driver sped off, taking Furrow Road and proceeding to the back of Cradlestone Mall.
The victim had severe head injuries and was declared dead on scene.
Police were still investigating details of the incident.
