Former Krugersdorp High friends part of My Kitchen Rules SA

This Sunday it will be Rein and Rowan's turn to wow their fellow contestants and judges.

Two former learners from Krugersdorp High School, Rein Buisman and Rowan Hoenselaar, made their small screen debut on M-net’s My Kitchen Rules SA which aired on Sunday, 13 August.

The best friends, who dubbed themselves the Food Dudes, are taking part in the competition, which has a R1 million prize for the winning team.

What is the competition all about?

My Kitchen Rules is originally an Australian competitive cooking game show. Each episode focuses on one team’s day of cooking, setting up their instant restaurant and serving a three-course dinner—entrée, main course and dessert—for the judges and their opposing teams.

Ten teams of amateur foodies compete in teams of two for a grand prize. There’s also the two judges – David Higgs and J’Something – pulling out chairs to tuck into whatever the competitors are whipping up in their respective kitchens at home and adding their scores to the overall tallies.

On Sunday, 20 August, it will be Rein and Rowan’s turn to wow their fellow contestants and judges.

The two are described as just a couple of ‘guy’s guys’. They met while playing water polo. With Rein’s passion for food having rubbed off on Rowan over the years, the boys’ dream is to own a grab’n’go noodle bar franchise with beer on tap and plenty of fortune cookies to inspire on-the-go South Africans.

“Rein and I have known each other since high school, where we met playing water polo,” said Rowan.

“After a seven-year stint when Rein was gallivanting around Holland, we met up again, and we’ve been the greatest of mates ever since.”

To see how will they score, watch Rein and Rowan on M-net on Sunday at 6pm.
