Land Rover catches fire while driving on N14

The vehicle allegedly caught fire because it was overheating.

Motorists were shocked when they drove past a burning vehicle on the N14 near Cradlestone Mall on Saturday, 19 August at about 8pm.

Reports from the scene indicated the vehicle overheated and then caught fire while being driven.

The driver of the car pulled into the entrance of a nearby service station and frantically jumped out.

He ran to get help from petrol attendants. One of them rushed to get their fire extinguisher and sprayed foam all over the vehicle to try and douse the flames.

A man from a towing company who saw what was happening took his fire extinguisher and helped the petrol attendant.

Quick Response Service (QRS), a local emergency service was called to the scene to attend to the driver’s injuries. They in turn contacted the West Rand District Municipality’s fire brigade, which arrived on scene soon after.

The fire was extinguished.
