Dogs cash in on banks’ kindheartedness
Tons of food were handed over to the animal organisation.
The animals of Wollies, a local animal shelter, were leaping out of their skins with excitement when they saw the tons of food donated to them by FNB banks across the country.
The FNB President Square branch, as part of FNB’s Pet Drive, handed the food over to Wollies volunteers and it’s safe to say that it was a strange thing to see a bank do.
Because the bank did not close its doors during the handover, normal customers sat with wide eyes, watching three gorgeous rescued dogs prancing around happily.

The dogs, Meeco, Mimo and Elfie were handled by the volunteers and their excitement was evident in their wagging tails, panting and even a few smiles.
Jean Roodt, one of the volunteers, said he was overwhelmed by the banks’ spirit, willingness and kindheartedness.
Not only did they receive more than 15 trolleys full of food, they also received a cheque to the value of R65 000 which they can use in aid of the animals.

Marius van Zyl, branch manager of FNB Clearwater Mall, said his team was happy to help and wished the Wollies volunteers all the best.
“The Pet Drive Volunteers are normal South Africans just like you and me who love animals,” said Marius.
“We have joined our two passions in life.”
Another project that benefited from the drive was Hoedspruit Animal Outreach (Halo), which is situated in Limpopo.
Both these charities do amazing work, raising awareness of animal abuse, teaching owners how to treat, feed and care for their animals and supplying them with many free services, from vet care to food and sterilisations.

“Having animals sterilised puts an end to unwanted animals being born into poverty.”
More about Wollies Animal Shelter:
Wollies Animal Shelter was established in 2013 in the heart of the poverty-stricken district of Wolmer, Pretoria, with the aim of promoting sterilisations at affordable prices and assisting the abandoned and less fortunate animals in the surrounding communities.
The shelter’s mission was to educate the public and reduce the numbers of unwanted animals.
Their project has blossomed over the years and their journey has transformed into a wonderful, no kill establishment which provides shelter, food, medical care and love to the ever-increasing number of homeless cats and dogs. Wollies currently provides over 600 dogs and 300 cats with a safe haven from the horrific circumstances most of them have been subjected to. They attend to their medical needs, ensure that they are sterilised, vaccinated, warm and fed, and most importantly, give them love.
They further open their hearts and doors to the less fortunate. They listen to the pleas for help and provide assistance to individuals who are unable to care for their animals by offering medical support, transport and food where it may be needed, free of charge.
“We passionately believe that every animal deserves an opportunity to feel loved and not to be exposed to the cruel acts of humans and the harsh realities of life. Our final objective is to search the to ends of the earth to find safe, caring and loving homes for these animals.”
